The following information is about Metabolism.
Metabolism Defined
Metabolism is the process of converting our energy source which is food into a form of energy the body can use to function. An increase in your metabolic rate (metabolism) will increase the number of calories you burn, and a decrease in your metabolic rate will decrease the number of calories you burn. This is why working out helps you lose weight. When you workout, your body needs more energy to function, so it will burn more calories. To provide more energy your body must increase your metabolic rate.

- The intrinsic circadian clock within the cardiomyocyte -- Durgan et al. 289 (4): H1530 -- AJP - Heart and Circulatory Physiology: Oscillations in circadian clock genes were associated with 24-h oscillations in the metabolic genes pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (pdk4) and uncoupling protein 3 (ucp3). In conclusion, these data suggest that the circadian clock operates within the myocytes of the heart and that this molecular mechanism persists under standard cell culture conditions (i.e., 2.5% serum). Furthermore, our data suggest that norepinephrine , unlike glucose, influences the timing of the circadian clock within the heart and that the circadian clock may be a novel mechanism regulating myocardial metabolism.
