Lenoir Co. heart disease death rate 70 percent higher than state average

Between 2002 and 2006, the death rate attributed to heart disease in Lenoir County was 70 percent higher than the state average. According to the latest community health assessment, the statewide average for deaths related to diseases of the heart was 209 per 100,000 people.

Three studies published by kinesiology researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst suggest that, unless you are a competitive athlete, consuming sports drinks or high-carbohydrate foods such as energy bars right after exercising may negate the health benefits that physical exercise creates.
